Castrol Brayco™ 589 is intended for preservation of turboprop and turbojet engines. This corrosion preventative oil is capable of limited use, not to exceed 25 hours, as an aircraft engine lubricant, and can be used for both preservation and final acceptance runs of aircraft engines requiring MIL-PRF-7808 oils.

 

Application

Since Brayco 589 is a synthetic ester based fluid it may adversely affect certain paints and elastomers. Serious deterioration of rubber parts, coatings, paint, and other organic materials may result from use of this product in systems designed for use with petroleum based fluids. Customers should determine the compatibility of existing components and make any changes as required to accompany use of this fluid.

The recommended operating temperature range for MIL-PRF-7808 type oils are from –54°C to 149°C (-65°F to 300°F).

Specifications Brayco 589 meets all the requirements of, and is qualified to MIL-PRF-8188D. This fluid is identified by NATO Code: C-638.

Castrol Iloquench™ 1 is a general purpose, low viscosity quenching oil. It is based on a selected solvent refined mineral oil highly resistant to oxidation and therefore offers long service life with minimum deterioration of properties during service.

 

Application

Iloquench 1 is a universal quenching oil for use in cold quenching applications of medium to high carbon as well as low alloy steels to impart the desired hardness to the components without metallurgical distortion or stress. Iloquench 1 is suitable for use in continuous furnaces, sealed quench furnaces and open quench tanks. It may also be employed for quenching parts heated in cyanide salt baths. Due to the low sulphur content Iloquench 1 is not affected adversely by the carry-over of cyanide salts. Iloquench 1 is particularly suitable for the quenching of small components because its low viscosity enables the surfaces of small, intricate profiles to be wetted effectively, enabling the most efficient heat transfer. Its low viscosity also reduces drag out losses to a minimum. Typically treated parts are nuts, bolts, ball bearings, hand tools and springs.

Castrol Iloquench™ 100 is a medium viscosity oil that is particularly suitable for quenching intricate components to the required hardness. Iloquench 100 is an additive treated oil that combines high temperature thermal and oxidative stability with low volatility, thus ensuring that fuming and evaporation are kept to a minimum.

 

Application

Iloquench 100 is recommended for use in hot quenching applications where distortion and stress caused by cold quenching is a problem. The product would be used for example in the automotive industry where close dimensional control of the components is essential. Iloquench 100 can be used between 120°C and 180°C. Although the product has excellent resistance to oxidative degradation, it is recommended that at these temperatures, the oil bath is protected from the air by a reducing atmosphere or inert gas.

DESCRIPTION
Brayco 599 is a specially designed synthetic base, dark amber, corrosion preservative additive concentrate.

 

APPLICATION
Brayco 599 is designed for use as an additive for turbine engines and helicopter transmissions which use MIL-PRF-23699F lubricating oil. Brayco 599 should be added to the oil sump immediately after an oil change when the equipment is intended to be placed in storage, especially in locations where high humidity and salt spray are present. The corrosion inhibited oil should be capable of limited use, not to exceed 25 hours. Consult the engine manufacturer's manual to determine specific engine model recommendations and/or limitations.
To receive full protection for extended equipment storage, Castrol recommends addition of Brayco 599 in concentrations between 10% and 15% by volume. Lower concentrations between 5% and 10%, may be suitable for some component storage applications depending upon storage conditions and length of storage. Consult the engine manufacturer's maintenance manual or service bulletin to determine specific engine model dilution ratio recommendations. For use in MIL-PRF-23699F synthetic turbine oils at 10-15% volume addition for storage.

Castrol Cooledge CB is a soluble cutting fluid for general machining of copper and copper-based alloys.


Application

Castrol Cooledge CB uses selected emulsifiers to ensure that there is no interaction between the emulsifier and the copper workpiece, preventing sludging or greening of the emulsion. If a conventional milky soluble oil is continuously used with cuprous metals, the copper can react chemically with the emulsifier in the coolant. The metallic soap formed by this reaction extracts more fatty material from the emulsion, which can then split more easily - causing a progressive reduction in overall performance in corrosion protection. A further disadvantage is that the copper soap, which first appears as a curd, becomes a semi-solid when impregnated with fine swarf causing blockages of services, pipelines and suds pumps. The coolant delivery pipes can also become internally coated with this metallic soap, restricting the coolant flow.

Cresta SC 46 is formulated from highly refined paraffinic base stock blended with a foam depressant and an efficient high temperature detergent/dispersant. These disperse products of oxidation, dissolve lacquers and varnish, and remove these from the system in the course of a normal oil change.

 

Application

Cresta SC 46 has been designed as a system conditioner for heat transfer systems using low viscosity mineral oil of the Perfecto HT5 type.


A preliminary analysis of the oil (which can be carried out by Castrol's Customer Service Laboratory) will determine if the oil requires treatment, or if treatment would be successful. Systems operating at temperatures up to 250ºC which show a viscosity increase of less than 10%, or a decrease of less than 30%, are suitable for treatment. If insolubles (oxidation products) are greater than 0.75% or the Closed Flash Point has fallen below 120ºC, then treatment is unlikely to be successful.


Cresta SC 46 is added until a TBN (Total Base Number) of eight for the total oil charge is reached. This is a measure of the concentration of the active component of the product, and should equate to approximately a 20% concentration of Cresta SC 46. Samples are taken every two weeks for at least six weeks to check the TBN and additions made as necessary to maintain a figure of eight. Any changes in operating temperatures and improvements in process reaction times should be noted. At the end of the six week conditioning period the oil should be drained, thus removing the oxidation products from the system, and refilled with new Perfecto HT5. Further extended service can however be tolerated if process requirements prevent the system from being withdrawn from service.

Perfecto™ SN 46 is a synthetic hydrocarbon based lubricant which has been developed for the lubrication of industrial gas turbines, gas compressors and other items of rotating equipment where high temperatures are encountered or where the critical nature of the plant demands a premium lubricant to ensure long life and reliable operation with extended periods between shut-downs. Perfecto SN 46 has a very high degree of both thermal and oxidative stability which combine to ensure that the lubricating oil system is maintained free from lacquers and deposits especially in the key areas of turbine bearings and scavenge lines, gearboxes (where a high degree of aeration can give rise to oxidation even at moderate temperatures), gas compressor seals and fuel or governor control valves.

 

Application

Perfecto SN 46 is designed for use as a gas turbine lubricant. Its major advantages over mineral oils are particularly demonstrated in its ability to protect equipment during extreme cold weather starting, extended high temperature operation, and where the unit is subject to severe heat soaking after shutdown. Other notable features are excellent wear and rust protection, controlled rubber swell and prevention of sludge or deposit formation.

Perfecto SN 46 is compatible with other synthesised hydrocarbon fluids and with mineral oils. It is not compatible with synthetic ester gas turbine lubricants or with phosphate ester hydraulic control fluids.

Castrol Molub-Alloy™ MWO 50 A LP Lubricant is a high performance slide and way lubricant. It was developed specifically to lubricate the rails of travelling pallets and the ways of work stations in automatic transfer machines used in high precision, high volume manufacturing.

Automatic transfer machines have been widely adopted by the automotive industry for machining automatic transmission housings and similar components. Demands for increased production have led to the design of higher and higher speed automatic transfer machines. Increased operating speeds have also spawned new metal cutting fluids and coolants which are highly surface active to enable an increase in the speed of tool wetting and the removal of heat. The surfactant additives used in these modern coolants have a detergent and cleansing action on oil and can rapidly displace lubricants used to protect the pallet guide rails and the ways at work stations. The special formulation of Molub-Alloy MWO 50 A LP lubricant resists the cleansing action of surface-active coolants so that wear on the rails and way is minimized and pallet motion is smooth and accurate.

Molub-Alloy MWO 50 A LP lubricant delivers positive lubrication to control wear and promote machining accuracy without excessive re-application or high lubricant consumption. The base oils used to blend MWO 50 A LP lubricant are high quality and selected for their ability to sustain a lubricating film despite sudden changes in load or shearing forces. The formulation includes selected polymer additives for both adhesive and cohesive characteristics. A select blend of Molub-Alloy lubricating solids is uniformly dispersed throughout the oil in a very stable suspension. Under extreme operating conditions, the lubricating solids provide lubrication even when the film is reduced to minimum thickness or where boundary conditions prevail. The value of the lubricating solids is reflected in the antiwear performance of this product. A carefully balanced treat rate of rust and oxidation inhibitors offers maximum rust protection for parts and long service life from the oil.
