Castrol Iloquench™ 1 is a general purpose, low viscosity quenching oil. It is based on a selected solvent refined mineral oil highly resistant to oxidation and therefore offers long service life with minimum deterioration of properties during service.

 

Application

Iloquench 1 is a universal quenching oil for use in cold quenching applications of medium to high carbon as well as low alloy steels to impart the desired hardness to the components without metallurgical distortion or stress. Iloquench 1 is suitable for use in continuous furnaces, sealed quench furnaces and open quench tanks. It may also be employed for quenching parts heated in cyanide salt baths. Due to the low sulphur content Iloquench 1 is not affected adversely by the carry-over of cyanide salts. Iloquench 1 is particularly suitable for the quenching of small components because its low viscosity enables the surfaces of small, intricate profiles to be wetted effectively, enabling the most efficient heat transfer. Its low viscosity also reduces drag out losses to a minimum. Typically treated parts are nuts, bolts, ball bearings, hand tools and springs.

Castrol Iloquench™ 100 is a medium viscosity oil that is particularly suitable for quenching intricate components to the required hardness. At the recommended oil bath temperature, its viscosity is low enough to prevent the retention of oil by capillary action and to reduce drag out losses. Iloquench 100 is an additive treated oil that combines high temperature thermal and oxidative stability with low volatility, thus ensuring that fuming and evaporation are kept to a minimum.

 

Application

Iloquench 100 is recommended for use in hot quenching applications where distortion and stress caused by cold quenching is a problem. The product would be used for example in the automotive industry where close dimensional control of the components is essential. Iloquench 100 can be used between 120°C and 180°C. Although the product has excellent resistance to oxidative degradation, it is recommended that at these temperatures, the oil bath is protected from the air by a reducing atmosphere or inert gas.

Castrol Iloquench™ 700 Aqua is a polymer quenchant for Induction Hardening of steel and cast iron. Aqua-Quench 251 is a pale amber coloured fluid concentrate based upon polyalkalene glycol. It mixes readily with water to produce a solution which is instantly ready for use. As Aqua-Quench 251 solutions are heated the organic polymer becomes insoluble in the water at temperatures above 74°C. When the solution is cooled the polymer goes back into solution and is fully miscible. It is this property known as "inverse solubility" which imparts the unique cooling mechanism to Aqua-Quench 251.

Aqua-Quench 200 is the latest development in our range of polyalkylene glycol (PAG) based quenchants. Its slower cooling rate during the critical martensitic transformation temperature range minimises risk of cracking and distortion and so enables the treatment of higher hardenability steels not previously suitable for quenching in conventional PAG type quenchants.

MAR-TEMP H 341 is a high performance accelerated hot quenching oil suitable for use at temperatures of up to 180°C. It is based upon solvent-refined mineral oils and contains a specially formulated additive package which provides accelerated quenching characteristics and excellent oxidation resistance and thermal stability.

MAR-TEMP H 341 has a high flash point and will provide long life under arduous operating conditions.

 

Applications:

MAR-TEMP M 341 is designed for hot oil quenching applications where minimum distortion is required and a very high cooling rate is necessary to achieve the optimum hardness and physical properties. It finds particular application in sealed quench furnaces at temperatures up to 180°C, under a protective atmosphere, for the control of distortion on critical high precision components such as automotive transmission parts in through hardened, carburised and carbo-nitrided steels. It can also be used in open tanks at temperatures in excess of 120°C for the quenching of gears and shafts.

The additives incorporated into MAR-TEMP H 341 reduce the duration of the vapour phase and provide a high maximum rate of cooling. This enables the development of maximum hardness and physical properties, and is particularly important on critical carburised or carbonitrided gear components where maximum hardness and case depth is a tooth root requirement.
