Castrol Optileb HY is primarily a non-toxic hydraulic fluid, manufactured solely from FDA (United States Food and Drugs Administration) listed ingredients for use within the food processing industry, particularly where incidental contact with foodstuffs may occur. Optileb HY 32 is USDA H1 / NSF Approved certificate no. 134151.

Application

Castrol Optileb HY grades have excellent anti-wear performance and can be used in hydraulic systems with all types of pumps and motors at their rated speeds and pressures. They are extremely resistant to water wash and offer excellent corrosion protection, making them also suitable for use as a light lubricating oil in wet environments or in applications where equipment is frequently washed down. It is recommended that systems being converted to Optileb HY grades are thoroughly drained and flushed before filling to prevent contamination with previous hydraulic fluid. Optileb HY 32 is ideal for use as an airline lubricant for the lubrication of compressed air powered equipment for food and beverage processing and packaging. It is suitable for use with both manual and automatically lubricated airlines. Optileb HY 32 prevents scum build-up and vane scorching in airline motors

Castrol Molub-Alloy™ 860 ES greases are high-performance multi-service lithium greases formulated from premium petroleum base oils, lubricating solids and a combination of corrosion inhibitors specifically chosen for protection against corrosive process waters. These are designed to extend the service life of bearings in heavy-duty applications and at elevated temperatures. Molub-Alloy 860 ES greases provide an appropriate oil film for applications at slower to moderate speeds, higher loads, and/or higher temperatures sustained for longer periods of time. The load-carrying and anti-wear capabilities of Molub-Alloy 860 ES greases exceeds conventional complex greases. High performance is the result of chemical additives working synergistically with select Molub-Alloy lubricating solids which are dispersed uniformly throughout the grease. The lubricating solids offer their greatest benefit at slow speeds or when bearings endure heavy loads and shocks. Solids also protect newly machined bearing surfaces during the critical period of 'running in'. Good bearing surfaces are essential for long service life.

Application

Molub-Alloy 860/460 ES greases should be used when loads are heavy, temperatures are elevated (up to 204ºC/400ºF) and speeds are slow, such applications include anti-friction bearings, bushings, sheaves and couplings. Primary industry, including steel - use Molub-Alloy 860 ES greases near hot ingots, soaking pits and reheat furnaces to lubricate pit cover carriages, mill stand screws, slipper couplings, roll bearings, manipulators and guide rolls for continuous casters. Paper Industry - on paper machines, use Molub-Alloy 860 ES greases on the 'wet end' couch, suction, and press roll bearings where water wash, corrosive process waters and high temperatures are present. Mining, construction, onshore drilling and offshore installations where heavily loaded slow speed applications subjected to shock loading in extreme environments.

Additional Information:

  • At temperatures above 121ºC/250ºF, regular reapplications of 860 ES must be considered.
  • At temperatures near 177ºC/350ºF, weekly reapplications of 860 ES are suggested.
  • For continuous service near 204ºC/400ºF, reapply 860 ES daily or once every shift.

Molub-Alloy 860 ES greases have been used above 232ºC/450ºF. However, frequent reapplication of grease is necessary to prevent deterioration of the petroleum base oil. Reapply before the grease in the bearing stiffens. In order to minimise potential incompatibilities when converting to a new grease, all previous lubricant should be removed as much as possible prior to operation. During initial operation, relubrication intervals should be monitored closely to ensure all previous lubricant is purged.

Castrol Molub-Alloy™ MWO 50 A LP Lubricant is a high performance slide and way lubricant. It was developed specifically to lubricate the rails of travelling pallets and the ways of work stations in automatic transfer machines used in high precision, high volume manufacturing.

Automatic transfer machines have been widely adopted by the automotive industry for machining automatic transmission housings and similar components. Demands for increased production have led to the design of higher and higher speed automatic transfer machines. Increased operating speeds have also spawned new metal cutting fluids and coolants which are highly surface active to enable an increase in the speed of tool wetting and the removal of heat. The surfactant additives used in these modern coolants have a detergent and cleansing action on oil and can rapidly displace lubricants used to protect the pallet guide rails and the ways at work stations. The special formulation of Molub-Alloy MWO 50 A LP lubricant resists the cleansing action of surface-active coolants so that wear on the rails and way is minimized and pallet motion is smooth and accurate.

Molub-Alloy MWO 50 A LP lubricant delivers positive lubrication to control wear and promote machining accuracy without excessive re-application or high lubricant consumption. The base oils used to blend MWO 50 A LP lubricant are high quality and selected for their ability to sustain a lubricating film despite sudden changes in load or shearing forces. The formulation includes selected polymer additives for both adhesive and cohesive characteristics. A select blend of Molub-Alloy lubricating solids is uniformly dispersed throughout the oil in a very stable suspension. Under extreme operating conditions, the lubricating solids provide lubrication even when the film is reduced to minimum thickness or where boundary conditions prevail. The value of the lubricating solids is reflected in the antiwear performance of this product. A carefully balanced treat rate of rust and oxidation inhibitors offers maximum rust protection for parts and long service life from the oil. Molub-Alloy MWO 50 A LP Lubricant is not corrosive to ferrous or nonferrous metals.

 

Application

Molub-Alloy MWO 50 A LP lubricant was developed primarily to lubricate the pallet guide rails and guide-ways at work stations of automatic transfer machines.

Application

CASTROL TRIBOL 5000 is a high-performance lubricant for open gears, wire ropes and similar applications. CASTROL TRIBOL 5000 was developed for application through automatic spray systems, but may also be applied manually. Heat or the addition of thinners is unnecessary. CASTROL TRIBOL 5000 is recommended for use on slow-moving, heavily loaded open gears. It is also used to lubricate rack-and-pinion gears, wire ropes, slides, cams and other machinery in mills and mines and other heavy industries.
Temperature range: -20°C up to + 120°C, +140°C intermittent.

Castrol Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds are manufactured by adding a small amount of a synthetic thickener to standard ISO grade gear oils. The small addition has a moderate thickening effect on the oils, especially in the container, or while not in motion. During the stirring action of gears and bearings, however, 969 exhibits the rapid flow and film-forming characteristics similar to the original base gear oils.

 

Application

Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds were originally developed for service in heavy duty earth moving equipment such as shovels and draglines. Surging stress and vibration on these machines inevitably produces some degree of leakage from gear cases. Excessive leakage at shaft seals is not uncommon on hoist, drag, propel, and especially swing gear cases of large draglines and swing cases of shovels. Often the tramp oil will contaminate the heavy gear compounds necessary to lubricate the exposed open gear drives. The use of 969 Gear Compounds can also be extended to control leaks in gear sets in industrial and marine applications. Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds are specially formulated to help control leaks in gear cases.

The synthetic thickener forms a mat-like matrix at the points of leakage to minimise the flow of oil. Leakage from gear cases has traditionally been controlled by the substitution of a grease for the lubricating oil. This is unsatisfactory because greases can channel, and are poor at carrying heat away from the meshing gears and dissipating from the gear case. The moderate thickening of Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds are not the characteristic that helps to control leaks at cracks and seals, it is the nature of the synthetic thickener to link or gel to bridge the opening with a restricting consistency. Other than this restricting action at small openings, Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds act very much like the original base gear oil in service.

Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds were developed using base oil viscosities of ISO standard grades. Currently we offer a leak resistant gear oil with the base oil ISO viscosity grade of 320.

 

Important Restrictions

Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds are not for use in units that include a central lubricating system as they will not pump like an oil nor flow through small lines. 969 will plug filters (see NOTES).

Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds should not be used in gear cases where shaft bearings are lubricated by oil flowing through small lines or orifices as they will seal small openings or seriously restrict oil flow. On the other hand, where bearings are submerged, and oil flow is not unidirectional, flow is not restricted.

Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds are designed for use in gearboxes where gear oil make-up volumes are unacceptable due to worn shaft seals or other minor causes of leakage. Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds are not designed to prevent leakage due to gross mechanical defects such as worn bearings and damage causing shafts to experience excessive play which results in excessive lubricant make up. The Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds would not normally be used in non-leaking gearboxes as a preventative measure.

 

Notes

  • Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds may be metered through grease pumping systems, but would be expected to cavitate in oil circulating pumps.
  • Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds will flow readily when agitated but should not be expected to flow by gravity or feed through small lines. Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds must be stirred vigorously before use.
  • Since filters must be removed when using 969, routine oil sampling is strongly recommended.
